The University of Vienna is one of the oldest and largest universities in Europe: Around 9,900 employees work at 20 faculties and centers, including around 6,900 scientists. The University of Vienna is thus the largest research institution in Austria as well as the largest educational institution. The Institute for Ethics and Law in Medicine (IERM) at the University of Vienna was founded in 1993 and is the only one of its kind in Austria. The Institute, which has been managed since 2004 as an interdisciplinary research platform of the Faculty of Catholic Theology, the Faculty of Protestant Theology and the Faculty of Law, also involves the Medical University of Vienna through a cooperation agreement. In addition to medical ethics and medical law, the IERM has played a significant role in establishing the discipline of nursing ethics in research and teaching for two decades. In the scientific advisory board of the IERM (Link) a continuous research networking beyond the participating faculties takes place, e.g. with the Institute for Nursing Sciences and the Institute for Political Sciences. In addition to teaching at the University of Vienna and MedUni Vienna, Ulrich Körtner and Stefan Dinges teach in the various Master's programs (e.g. Medical Ethics in the Master's program Medical Informatics, MedUni Vienna) as well as at Austrian universities and universities of applied sciences.
